But are they actually established routes like we see on the maps? If a person is in one system without a hyperspace lane that leads to another system does that person need to travel along another route then exit at the appropriate system and take another route to where they need to go?Įven with a 1:1 mapping which is the simplest form for a hyperspace, you can't just straight shot your way from one system to another on far sides of the galaxy I get that they are a place other than real space where people in them should be in their own bubble of a route and they should be uninterrupted. I just don’t understand what the hyperspace lanes are and how people access them. Then when Kassav is attacked by the Republic and Eriaduan armies he specifically acknowledges that he can’t get to where he needs to be to jump to hyperspace, very specifically making it clear he cannot just jump from where he is unless Marchion Ro gives him a path to take. In Light of the Jedi we understand at least some of how they were mapped, especially with Mari. Obviously we understand a need to set specific coordinates in before doing so from A New Hope but then I later found out about hyperspace lanes and it kind of confused me. Growing up I always figured characters could just jump to hyperspace whenever and wherever they wanted. Maintain a polite, academic style discussion atmosphere.
